Hi all! Quick question...In Exchange 2003, do you have only one server that you can send outbound mail to? For example, we have a frontend virus/spam server that receives all emails and then we also send outbound emails through that server that in turn sends to the internet...In the SMTP connector, can you specify more than one IP address to send outbound mail to in case the primary goes down? I guess we could always just use DNS to send outbound email...

Yes you can mave multiple servers setup in the SMTP connector. When using a smart host (your setup) you just put a comma between the IP addresses.

Great...Thanks!

Can you also do this for Exchange 5.5? In the "forward all messages to host:" field, can you type two address of two hosts seperated by commas in case the first one is not available for any reason? Or is this just available for 2003?

I don't know if you can in 5.5 or not. I've never used it. I suppose you could try it and see what happens. You can do it in 2000.

Just an extra heads up. If you're using an IP address you have to have it in brackets, like so --> [111.111.111.111]

Awesome...Thanks!

Does this also work for the Default SMTP Virtual Server aswell as connectors?

Is this documented anywhere - I cannot find it.

I believe right now, I am sending mail from my exchange 2003 server to my 5.5 and that server sends it out...Can I create a new SMTP connector so my 2003 server sends it straight out to the internet rather than sending to my 5.5? Will that affect the other existing 5.5 connectors?

Thanks!
