SMTP connection to ISP

Hi everyone,
I've set up an SMTP mail feed with our ISP. I can send out mail to any email address but can't receive mail. Our ISP says that they get "connection refused" at their end when they manually try to forward our mail to us. Our smtp virtual server is setup for our ISP to relay & connect to - but we still can only send. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
