We are using SMS2.0 with SP3. I have had the Console running on my laptop for months. Yesterday I did the latest updates from Microsoft. Immediately after the updates were complete I went back into SMS. To my surprise although it opened fine I could get nothing in the console. When I click Connections it says there are no items to show in this view. Same thing for packages, advertisements, etc. Only thing that shows anything is Security Rights. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the console. I have also used System Restore to put my machine back to Monday before the updates. Still same results with SMS. I desparatey need to have SMS on my laptop and I do not have the time to rebuild the machine again. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

How big is your SMS site, you may want to upgrade your SMS site to SP5?

If you can't update your whole site, just try to download the SP5 for SMS from Microsoft. Then use these SP5 files to install your SMS console. This might work....not really sure. Never saw this type of problem.

Can you administer you site right from the SMS server? Maybe there is a problem with your sms server. Reboot it.

Other people are able to connect to the SMS Site and use the Admin console without a problem. I was able to on my machine until I installed the latest MS updates yesterday. I will look for the SP5. We should have it on disk, since we get the Select Agreement disks.

I downloaded the SP5, uninstalled SMS Console and reinstalled using SP5 but the problem is still the same.

This might be a problem with SMS security. Can you walk up to the SMS server, log in with your normal userid, and connect to the SMS Administrator console?

If you can't, then the problem is with your id and SMS security. You can fix this by resetting your account rights in SMS.

Can't test that because the SMS Administrator has not loaded the Console on the server. All management is done remotely.

Uh, then can you log on to another machine that has the SMS console loaded (and is working) to test.

I can log on successfully on another machine. It is definitely something on my laptop.

Not sure...maybe reinstall the latest service pack and then resinstall the admin console? Just a thought...

or uninstall the latest security pack that you installed...

Thanks for your patience in trying to help solve this. At this point the security patch should be gone. I restored my system to prior to the update. Unless a system restore doesn't get rid of those....

I'm just concerned that these updates may break something else as well. I do not want to push them out to our organization if that possibility exists. So, this problem is actually a two fold problem. I need SMS back functioning on my machine but I would also like to try to understand why this happened.

The plot thickens. I have narrowed the problem down to my profile. If another user logs in on my machine they can use SMS just fine.

I have been trying to delete my profile and recreate using the default but it will not let me delete it. I log in as Administrator on the computer and when I try to delete my profile it says NTUSER is in use and cannot be deleted. Anyone have any thoughts?
