I have SMS 2.0 SP2 pushed out to all 70 servers in my domain and some are failing to logoff/shutdown properly, receiving SMSMON32.exe, WUser32.exe, or Avertised Program Manager processes that won't shut down properly. I experienced similiar problems on Win95 clients w/SP1 and I don't want to install the client on all the workstations until this is resolved. Anyone know a fix for this??

I've only seen this problem occur when I try to logoff the machine as an SMS installation is taking place. Please understand that the SMS client installation takes about 8 to 15 mintutes to install. The initial SMSMAN.exe running does appear to take more than a minute or two; however, the client continues to install in the backround. If you try to log off the machine as it is installing SMS components, you may get the described error. Check you Systems MAnagement icon in control panel (on the client), select the Components tab, and verify that all components are installed properly. SMS is pretty smart, it should be able to correct itself if there was a problem with the initial installation.

I am getting a similar problem with Advanced Clients in a SMS2003 environment, with Win2003 Native AD. When I remote desktop onto a server that has the Adv Client installed, and try to log off, it takes about 5 mins to logoff, instead of 5 seconds. Microsoft have released a hotfix for this (KB831962), but there is no place available for download of this file.

Any ideas where to find it?

personally I'd bring the sp level up to at least 4 (5 would be better sp 2 was less than fair....
