We have two 8600's in our core connected with IST trunks. We have always used SMLT to the closet stacks with a 1GB uplink from each 8600 running SMLT. Is there a reason or benefit we should consider DMLT over SMLT?
DMLT is spreading the MLT across blades in the same 8600 and gives redundancy if a single blade goes down, if you can you should have this setup from one 8600 to your layer2 switch and the same to the other 8600 But still using SMLT .
That way you could lose any one of the 8600 ,s or any single blede & still keep connectivity.
You might want to consider using LACP on your DMLT/MLT links. Code 4.1 and onwards I think. It load balances the traffic across the trunk ports better.
