I have to copy SMDR info on an OP 11 Succession 3.0.

I don't need to provide pricing or any type of integration. If I hook up a PC to capture the output I know it comes out in SL1 format. Is there any easy (cheap) way to make SL1 format more easily understood?
All they want to see is the incoming/outgoing number, number dialed and length of call.
Help!
I have to do the same thing for an MICS which of course puts out in SL1 also so one answer might just fit all.

None that I know of, I think you can get a faily cheap call account package to load on the pc.

A cheap and fairly easy way to do that is to capture the CDR records and then inport the .txt file to Excel. You can then delete the columns that have the information you don't want. This isn't as clean as a call accounting package but if all you are looking for is the station making the call, duration, and number called it works well. Only main drawback is that it requires you to save the files on some type schedule.

Steve64,
I am going to give this a try. It is exactly what I am looking for. My intent was to have a spare PC permanently hooked up to capture the output and then schedule downloads from the PC on a weekly basis.
I am thanking you with a Star.

Just remember Excel has a 64000 line limit. If you exceed that, you can use MSAccess to build a import specification that will read the file the same way each time you want to process the file.

Should be no problem on the two sites, both are low volume.
Thanks for the heads up on the 64K limit and the Access import.

I've done the Access import also but unless you are good with it, it's more difficult. You can do lots more with it though.

I Excel challenged, but I do know how to import from Excel if it is a straigt import. Not sure if I can set it up to only read the fields necessary but I am going to give it a try.

Since you will be importing a .txt file Excel will prompt you through how you want it configured. Just use the defaults until you get to the part where it shows you how it's going to configure the columns. At that point you can delete the undesired columns or you can just leave them and delete them after it populates the spreadsheet. If the .txt file has entries that are out of place when output to the .txt file from the switch they will also be wrong on the excel sheet. You will just need to scan down and fix the entries. The information will be there just not in the correct column. I was doing this on a weekly basis for a cust and usually found 2 or 3 that were messed up, but it only took a few seconds to correct it. Then save as an excel .xls sheet. If you don't select this it will save it as a .txt file and will be messed up when you open it again or print it on reopening.

Great stuff. This is why Tek-Tips has the rep of the best site on the web to get help.
Thanks to everybody. It will be a while but when I do this I will post back.

Forgot one thing.. Don't import just go to "FILE" and then "OPEN" and select the .txt file you saved. also in step three (excel) change the column formats to TEXT. Default is General. The column for dates set to "DAT". This will save you lots of grief and reformatting later.
