Hello everybody. I recently started in my position as a computer tech. I do not have "years" of experience behind me, hence, the reason why I am here. When I boot a workstation running w98, I get this error that says SmartHeap Library - Mem_Bad_Pointer. I am having tons of grief with this, and am not sure how to get rid of this error. If there is ANYONE out there who could please help me, I'd be very grateful.....

Irma

Thank you so much Murray. I will give that a shot and see what happens! :) You from Saskatchewan??

The obvious "Sask" in your handle! Cool! Me too, PA.

No kidding! Well, thanks for the tips Murray. I'm going to give it a shot here and see what happens!

I ran across the same thing but it occured with NPrinter (NPT95). It was removed from the PC because it was no longer supported. It was just something that was on there from days gone by. The first time the Smartheap error occured resulted with no message the error occured in, the second reboot gave it away in the details of the error message.

Hope this helps.

Rog..

SMART is a method for monitoring a hard drive for fatal errors. There are hard drive programs that can constantly look for signals from this. SMART is a hardware techniqe of monitoring hard drives and can be turned off in the BIOS. A hard drive has to be SMART capable to use it.

If you do not like my post feel free to point out your opinion or my errors.

I dont know exactly what either of them mean but this thread is referencing something called smartheap not smart.
Arent they different things?

a smart reference

a smartheap reference

When I had smartheap problems awhile back the manifestations and solutions related to printers not harddrives.
