small office w/embedded vm - remote access 1

I installed a small office ip with the embedded vm card. (not a fan of it - avoid if possible, go with VM Pro). Anyway, I can't access messages remotely. The instructions say to just dial in, let my greeting pick up and press 8 while it is playing. It should then let me put in my access code and have access to the full menu to check messages, change greeting, etc. However, when I press 8, the greeting keeps playing as if no digit was pressed. This happens with phones on the system and outside it. I can only check messages from the extension they are associated with. Thanks in advance.

Please tell me the answer I think I found is wrong. I finally located a User Guide that is specifically for the embedded voice mail. On page three it says: "To access your mailbox dial *17 from your own extension. You only have access to the voicemail from your own extension." Is it possible that this is not an available feature with this voice mail? A $12 answering machine has this feature, but not this?! Ahhhh! Word to the wise: use Lite or Pro!

I ran into this same issue, I had to add AA2 and a separate incoming call route to solve this. In the AA2 Destination put in *9ext name, with a normal transfer for each user. Add shortcode *9N, ?N, Voicemail Collect.

The users call in on a separate incoming call route into this special AA2 and get transfered to their voicemail. It's not very elegant but it does work.
