Recently we switch from using express to oulook for email. Is there a option on Outlook to autocomplete a contact name like it does in express?

Check Tools/Options/E-mail Options/Advanced.

Dave

Any other suggestions? I did not see anything that would help.

You don't have Automatic Name Checking in the Advanced menu?

Automatic Name Checking is checked, could it be that I am using Word as a Email?

No, it works for me using Word as my editor.

What's not working about it?

When I start a new mail, I want it to be able to complete the contact.

Ex:
I type m
Outlook would then find all contacts Begining with M

To: Mark

I don't think Outlook will do that general a name. If I enter "Mike" in my too, then complete my e-mail and hit Send, a dialogue will pop up listing all the Mike's in my contacts list.

I believe this is "as good as it gets".

Dave

You need to type at least 3 chars If the solution is here, let us know it was helpful so others can benefit from it as too

Actually, only 1 character is sufficient. Outlook does not 'type ahead' or 'auto-suggest' the way Outlook Express does.

Doesn't work on my system with just one character...that will bring up my entire address book. For me, two characters are needed before it will narrow the choices down.

Works with 1 character in Outlook 2000. Did you choose a character that starts a name of one of your contacts? Even when I choose a character that doesn't exist on my contacts (like x for example), I still get the choose dialog - just with 'no suggestions'.

I'm running O2K with E2K. When I enter one character, "t", it just brings up the entire contacts list (my default one). There are plenty of contacts that begin with "t", but it brings up everyone (non-t's as well). If I enter "to", it will bring up all the contacts that begin with "to", such as Tom and Todd.

Hmm... maybe Exchange is causing the difference. Not using it here and my contacts are stored locally in the .pst file.

That's the difference! I changed to make my Contacts the first source for addresses, and when I enter a single letter it will only display users that have a first or last name that begins with that letter (i.e. "s" brought up "Scott ..." and "... Simpson". When the GAL is set as the first source, it doesn't work the same...needs at least two letters.

Dave

Dave,
How did you change to make my contacts the first source for addresses?

Tools, Services, Addressing tab, 'When sending mail check names.....'. Change the order however you want.

Smah is correct, if you're running in Corporate/Workgroup mode. If your in Internet Only, you won't have that option available. I'm not sure if there's a setting for Internet Only.

In Office XP there is no distinction between Internet Only and Corporate/Workgroup.
