My desktop Windows 98SE sytem with 64MB RAM is slow to respond after closing Internet Explorer 6. It takes nearly 60 seconds for Windows Explorer (for example) to come up. After it does come up things come back to normal - no more slow response. My system has all the critical updates. This behaviour started 3 updates ago. I have Ad-Aware, Spybot, CWShredder and SpywareBlaster. The last time I used IE6, closed it and launched Windows Explorer, it took its time coming up and then the system hung - froze.

Do you have any anti-virus? If not, go to Trend-Micro and do an online scan.

Hi,
You say you have Ad-Aware and Sypbot but when was the last time you ran them ?.
Also download and run CCleaner (short for Crap Cleaner)
It will remove unused and temporary files from your system.
