Slow opening URL links

We have started to have a problem where if a user opens a URL link either from within an email message or from a shortcut that they created on their desktop, it takes about 1 minute to a minute and half to open IE and go to the url. If the user opens IE then clicks on the url link it opens right up. We didn't always have this problem, just started. Anyone else seen this or know what could be causing this? Thanks.

Wonder if its looking through cached pages first before opening up?

Might explain the gradual slowdown.

I have cleared cache thinking that might be it too. This also happens when I am logged in as administrator, so it isn't a permission issue. Looked at processes when it is sitting there waiting, and nothing. Thanks..

Try getting process tracker from

http://www.sysinternals.com,

and see if there is any funny stuff going on. Is there an upgrade available for IE for you ?

Ok, wierd one..I got the process explorer, watched it and noticed that when I tried the url link norton realtime scan was popping up alot. So I cycled the norton AV service and now it works fine???

I guess.. I will have to watch and see if it starts again and if that is what fixed it or if it just fixed itself (Hate those ones) Thanks for the help.

I suspect that is what it is, I am not convinced Norton is a great answer to that problem, but in my experience Macafee can do the same. It is an embuggerance to find.
