At the moment, we have a WAN environment between three different sites, and are all sharing the same PDC (NT Server 4, located at my site). All users log on and share the files on that PDC. Each site has also its own BDC.

Users from the other sites are finding it increasingly slow (..and frustrating) to access data / internet / email / etc...

Is there any solution to overcome this delay in data transmissions and communications?

I was told that increasing the bandwidth is not to be considered due to financial reasons.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

How about setting their own PDC for each sites and only dedicate the link for email/internet access etc...

I'd be creating shared folders at all sites, so that files that are specific to a site, remain on that site. Anything that needs to be seen by all sites, can be hosted at the main site.

I'd also have DNS and WINS (with replication) set up at each site, with local clients pointing to these local services, rather than traversing the WAN for name resolution purposes.

If each site has its own internet access, then putting a DNS server on-site is the only way of making their internet seem faster.

Email they may have to deal with being slow, unless your prepared to put (and pay for) an Email server at each site. [auto] MCSE NT4/W2K
