We just got some new PCs with Windows XP on them. When we try to look at the files in a folder with a lot of files (~12,5000) in it, XP takes a really long time to open the folder. Windows 98 would open it pretty quickly - just a matter of seconds.

Why does Windows XP take so long?

I've experimented with the settings on the NIC, like speed and duplex. That makes no difference. What else can I do?
