slow browsing network 1

Hello,

yesterday I was settting up a GPO to install Office XP via group policy etc. Had a few problems...., but eventually got it to install.
This morning, I've walked into a hornets nest...I'm unable to run any of our 16 but legacy programmes. (not too sure if it is related to AD or not).

I'm having trouble browsing the network, opening up legacy 16 bit apps etc. This is on most of my PC's. I'm able to run 16 bit programme from server, but not from XP workstations. Anyone got any ideas? I'm really desparate.......

Start with visiting the incredible Doug Knox's site to restore the original registry associations for .lnk, .ico, and .exe files:

It would help all of us a great deal if you were more specific:

. You click, and nothing happens?
. You click, and an error message appears?
. Start, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer
Do your error logs show any details?

Hi,

when I click on the application, an hour-glass appears......and then nothing more. I wait, and wait and wait...and eventually the application will open and run. I takes about 5 minutes for it to do so.Yesterday, and on normal days, It should only take seconds to load.
There is nothing in event viewer. No other error messages either.

I've just tried to reetore PC to an earlier restore point. NOt a great deal of difference. Could it be a network problem?

Hi,

I just tried to browse to my Home Directory......but couldn't. Said "Not Responding" and then connected after a few seconds. Very sluggish to connect to network drives.

Immediately, even if slow, use IE and head to the Trend Micro and Panda online AV scans. Do both.

Thanks for suggestion.....currently running TrenMicro. I do keep system updated every few days with SOPOHS..but there's always a possibility that my server has a virus. Will have to complete on Monday. Goin home for a well-earned beer. Office is shut now.

ran Trend Micro and Panda.....no viruses on network. Now investigating possibility of network problem.

Turned out to be a faulty AT FS722 switch.........

Thank you for the feedback to the forum. A bum switch is a heart breaker of an issue, but I am glad you go the issue sorted.
