Skipping on Premier Pro

When I use Premier Pro (1.0) on my laptop which is well within Adobe's spec everything runs fine EXCEPT when I try to watch my sequence it skips and stutters making it impossible to review the edit. The video imports fine with no dropped frames and it runs smoothly when viewed in the source window, it only happens viewing the video in a sequence. Does anyone know why or has anyone experienced this and been able to fix it?
