SIP trunk between IP Office and Lotus Sametime

We are trying to integrate an IP Office 6.1 system with Lotus Sametime 8.5.3. Does anyone have experience setting up this integration? The direction I am going in is to setup a SIP trunk between the two platforms, but I am not sure if that is the direction I should be going in.
