Hi

I was at a site today with a company trying to get call recording equipment working. First one I have been involved with
and was told to setup a mirror port on the netgear poe switch which mirrored the port connected to the ip office.

Its an ip office ver 9.0 with ip phones and uses a couple of netgear poe switches. Its sip lines from gamma and all connected
on lan 2 . The call recording eng has installed his software and hooked up to the mirror port but has came back saying he is not
seeing any SIP traffic on the mirror port. I have proved via the monitor trace that I can see sip info ( connecting to lan 2) but not sure how I could
test the mirrored port with wireshark. Even just plugging my laptop into another port on the poe switch not seeing any sip signalling
via wireshark. They also need to see smdr which they are getting ok but no sip traffic. Any ponters would be appreciated and if iam
missing something in using wireshark as haven't used it before today..

Yes will do some digging about tomorrow :)

Port mirroring to do call recording sounds a bit as a security issue to me!
Get some proper call recording equipment please.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

TLPeter - you do realise that the two big call recorder players in this country (OAK and NICE) both require port mirroring for SIP call recording, so this is proper call recording equipment.

I think it is not as a mirroring port is not meant to be used for call recording.
It is meant to use for problem solving as far as i know.
It is better to use a server or tool with two nics with a pass-through option.

The half dozen or so SIP Call recorders I have been involved in the installation of have been done this way, and Oak will not even attend site to do the install unless they have proof the port mirroring is setup and working correctly.

But what do you do when there is a network problem and you need that mirroring port?
Most brands only can have one mirroring port.

I do not do networking so would leave that to the IT guys to worry about, but in my office we have a single netgear switch installed just for the port mirroring for the recording as we had a spare in stock. If I really had to do further port mirroring I would probably just stick an old 403 in for the testing.

Where's a hub when you need one, Xima have done this right, it doesn't need port mirroring :)
