Sip trunk problem.

Situation:

Existing DIDs worked. New DIDs did not. Any call to new DID failed despite ICR configured. Trace showed 404 error. Did some Googling and found a thread here answered by Amriddle. He said to set * for local URI, display name and contact under SIP URI. That fixed the problem. This may be a SIP 101 question, but how did that fix the problem? Why was it not a problem with the old DIDs? All I did was modify the existing SIP URI entry.

At the time I added the *s I had not configured the SIP info under the user configuration. Can I assume the IPO issued the 404 because it could not find a SIP configured user with the matching DID? It was using the SIP tab info not the ICR?

The * means a wildcard so that you do not have to configure the URI's.
Probably the new URI's where not configured.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

TLPeter - yes. But my confusion is the URI is for outgoing calls, right? So the IPO was rejecting calls for the new DIDs because the URI wildcards were not set, yet it allowed the old DIDs. SO is it correct to say the IPO look for the SIP info under the USER tab first then the ICR for incoming calls - hence the 404? Had I configured the USER/SIP info ie the DID numbers for authentication would I have not needed the wildcards in the URI?

Depending on the URI configuration it happens that ICR will be completely ignored. If you URI is configured to use internal data IPO will look into the user's SIP tab and if you have *'s it will look into ICR.

@ derfloh. One of the most succinct IPO/ SIP explanations I have ever read in one sentence.

Some men learn by listening, some by observing, some by talking, some others need to pee on the electric fence.

You can print it and hang it on your wall ;-) BTW... It have been two sentences :-D Thanks for the star.

The second sentence was the one i was referring to. [smile]
