OK. there is one user who used Shift-Delete to remove all emails in her inbox so it looks like we can not recover anything from "recovery deleted item", is there anyway to extract her mailbox from our Exchange backup? We have almost 100GB of exchange backup and i dont want to restore all of them.

Many thanks

Short of restoring to a recovery storage group and then exporting the mail, you'd need a third party product. Ontrack Powercontrols may work for you

There might be no need for a restore.

Add the following DWORD to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Exchange\Client\Options on her client or yours if you are accessing her mailbox.

DumpsterAlwaysOn - give it a value of 1

When you go into Outlook you will then get an option to recover deleted items in all folders, not just Deleted Items itself.
This will work as long as you haven't gone past the deleted items retention setting on the server.

Old trick from XC 5.5 days, and possibly before that.

thanks.

recovered mailbox from that hard delete by using Neill's tip. KB246153

It's a good idea to turn that dumpster always on setting on for all users. It can be done via vbscript. markdmac has it posted here in several threads.
