Hi guys,

Wondering if anyone can help me out here, for some uni course work i have to configure 5 loopback address to simulate web sites and also use the "ip http server" command in the router config for the simulation. I've never used this command before and i'm not sure of its purpose!

Could anyone direct me where i use this command, i've already set the loopback addresses ( which i need to be able to connect to from a browser), so i assume i also need the ip http server command for this to function properly.

Thanks,

ip http server" command is done in Global Config.

All it does is enable your router/switch to be a web server.

I'm guessing you're trying to "black hole" certain http sites and redirect them to your router address?

I've set up 5 loopback addresses: 194.14.29.128 to 194.15.29.132

So do i only need to use the "ip http server" command in global config mode or do i need to assign addresses that are effectivly hosted by my "web server"?

ip http server" is only available in Global Config, and like I said, all it does is turn on the http server on the device. There is not much further configuration unless you want to filter or bind to a certain port. Any IP that is assigned to the router, and accessible from a web server, could then be potentially plugged into a web browser's address bar and accessed from a PC.

I believe what you are trying to do is simulate a outside web address by using a loopback address(we do the same thing for class). If you enable "IP http server", you should be able to hit one of the loopback addresses with a web browser. And I believe that you will be challenged with password prompts if you have them enabled.
Since you have your loopbacks configured, should be something like:

router>
router>en
router#conf t
router # ip http server

should enable it

from web browser:

Think thats it!
