New server will have Exchange 2003 (as part of Small Business Server 2003).
There are only three users.
Internal mail only, no delegates, nothing fancy.
Currently running Exchange 5.5 on NT 4.0 server.

Can we simply export their 5.5 data to *.pst files, then import the data to the 2003 server?

The new server will likely have a different name, and be in a different domain (although that's not necessary).

Simply ... yes, up to a point.

You can Exmerge everything using the 2 step method, EXCEPT Public Folders.

You can then import again with Exmerge on the 2003 Server, regardless its name.

The 5.5 hardware is ailing and we've already moved all data off.
Exmerge requires both servers (2003) and (5.5) to be alive and well.
I can't be sure that there will be a 5.5 server when the 2003 server is put in place. That's why I'm hoping the export/import routine will work.
From what you've said, I think we'll be OK!

My apologies, Marcs41, In my haster I forgot to thank you.

I really appreciate your quick response.

Thanks again!!!!

Exmerge requires both servers (2003) and (5.5) to be alive and well.

That is not true! But of course, you need the server to be running to actually run Exmerge.

But, since you already have the PST's, you chances of being OK are good.

Besides that, maybe not your fault, but removing a server before a succesful migration is very risky!
