Ok... here's the scoop. I have at Site Alpha a Cisco 1600 with an integrated CSU/DSU. At site Beta a Cisco 2600 and 3600.
Cisco1600-
Interface serial 0/0
service-module t1 clock source internal
service-module t1 timeslots all speed 64
service-module t1 framing esf
service-module t1 linecode b8zs
ip address 10.1.1.1 255.255.255.0
encapsulation ppp
fair-que
no shut
Cisco 2600 (no integrated csu/dsu, just serial)
Interface serial 1/1
ip address 10.1.1.2 255.255.255.0
encapsualtion ppp
fair-que
no shut
The two routers communicate fine
On the 3600 I enter the same commands on Serial 1/1 but the routers are unable to communicate. Whats up with that? The 3600 has a newer IOS 12.1(5) and the 2600 has the older 11.3. The 1600, ios 12.0 seems to prefer the 2600 router with ios 11.3 for some reason. I know this stuff isnt rocket science. Is there something I'm missing? Thanks.
