My problem is I'm not sure how to ask what I want to do, don't know the proper terms so I'll explain it this way.

In email you have a signature file that automatically shows up when you write a new email. I want to be able to do that in a memo type field in my database. Is this possible? I'm using Access 97

Thanks

There are two ways to do this comparatively easily.

The first is dependant upon your using Access security so using the currentuser function will get the name of the current user. You can build a table of current users and use a text field to hold the signature. You can than easily access the signature as you need it.

The second way is to allow your user to crate a signature file using his name with “.txt” appended to it. Then you would simply read the text file to get the signature. Either way would work quite nicely.

Hi,

The easiest way is to set your "signature" as the default value for the field. Open the table in design view, highlight the field you want to assign a signature, find the "Default value" field (in the field properties box on the lower left), and type in your signature.

You can either text enter that will appear the same for every record (just type it in the "default value" field), or fool around with an expression (hit the ellipis on the right of the default value field).

One small warning on this - I don't think there's a way to put a return carriage in the default value. So if you want to try this method and are planning something with several lines, you'll need to re-organize your signature somehow.

Hope this is what you were looking for, Good luck

Thanks but what I'm really looking for is a signature to appear in a memo field all the time. Signature is probably a bad way to put it but it's the only way I could ask my question.

When someone opens the form to add to it I want this to appear all the time. The field is a memo type.
