I have Exchange 5.5, SP 4, NT 4.0 SP 6a

When I try to shut down the server I get 2 errors that say they cannot shutdown, and asks if I want to Endtask. I have to EndTask to complete the shutdown/logoff process. The two processes that are causing the trouble are:
1. OleMainThreadWndName
2. OleChannelWnd

Does anyone know what these processes are for and why they are not shutting down properly before logoff.

Thanks for your help.

What you need to do strangly enough, is go by all your running services and check their startup status. Some of them must have the 'interact with desktop' checked. Go by them one by one, disable the interact option and try again. One of them is giving you the problem.

Do you have ODBC desktop drivers installed?? Like Coldfusion-BMC Patrol-...

Hope this solves your problem

Thanks for the suggestion.
I went through all the services and unchecked the interact with desktop option. I am still getting the errors on shutdown.

I do not have any ODBC desktop drivers installed. This is strictly and exchange server.

Any other suggestions? Nothing is recorded in the event log.

Check out the following registry keys and look for odd things. If you're sure they can be deleted, delete them!

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Like add-on soft for IE, ...

Have you tried shutting the services down one by one to identify what service is causing the problem?

I suggest this order:

net stop "Microsoft Exchange Internet Mail Service"
net stop "Microsoft Exchange Event Service"
net stop "Microsoft Exchange Information Store"
net stop "Microsoft Exchange Message Transfer Agent"
net stop "Microsoft Exchange Directory"
net stop "Microsoft Exchange System Attendant"

If you have any Anti-virus or other email related products try shuuting these down first.
