First it depends on the OS and whether you are running "under" Windows.

Under DOS, I remember having a 30-40 byte program that would shutdown the computer. In Windows, things get a bit more complicated - it likes to clean up things, or it'll "complain" the next time you start up. If you are running under NT/2000/XP, it'll also depend on your security access level as to whether you can do this.

1. To shutdown a win98 or winMe computer..
C:\WINDOWS\RUNDLL.EXE user.exe,exitwindows
2. To restart a win98 or winMe computer ..
C:\WINDOWS\rundll32.exe shell32.dll,SHExitWindowsEx 6

or you can ignore the 'c:\windows\' since the command is available in the path anyway. ramani :-9
