Sorry, its me again!

Another strange one. Client autocreated printers. I've been asked to find out if there is any way that the names of the auto created printers can be shortened. What appears to be happening is that for one particular farm, the name of the printer and queue that is being displayed is so long in length that the whole of it is not visible within appliactions. As a result, a user has a choice between several printers when they go to print something, but each of the options appears identical!

My question, firstly, is whether there is a way to turn this path around in the display, so that the printer is displayed first, and then the queue name or, better still, is there any way of renaming these queues at the point they are created to make them a much shorter length?

Has anyone had any experience of this, and can offer any tips or suggestions?

Many thanks,

Chris

No I don't think there is. I am amazed that you have a problem with this. Either your machine naming convention is using big lon names or your printer naming convention is doing likewise, or your using a DOS app[smile]

I've struggled with this one because QuickBooks on Citrix HATES long printer names.

Here's a quick fix that works for me. It's nothing official, but the logic is sound.

1. Log out of Citrix. Outside of Citrix, at the Windows desktop, go to START-->SETTINGS-->PRINTERS
2. You will see the printers that are installed on your computer. Right click on the printer name, such as HP LASERJET 2200 SERIES PRINTER
3. Click the selection labeled RENAME.
4. Name the printer something much shorter like HP2200 and press Enter.
5. Restart your Citrix session. You will see that the client's printer name is no longer Client\ComputerID\HP LASERJET 2200 SERIES PRINTER but is now Client\ComputerID\HP2200
