Hi there,

My Client would wish a shopping cart on their website, which the user can select what product they want, then proceding to the checkout to confirm their order, could anyone help me with this?. I have never done anything so advanced before, i am a web designer, but not the best at the back-end stuff, espicially when it comes to shopping carts and asp.

The client is wishing for this to be up and running within the next 3 weeks, so all the help i can get would be very much apprecited, even tutorials on this would be a hugh advantage.

The client also wishes for the user to use credit details, i know you have to set-up a third party and everything else that goes along with it, but my client said that they will sort all that out.

If anyone could help on this, that would be very much apprecited.

thanks

With limited back-end experience and a three week deadline, I would be inclined to buy an off the shelf cart rather than develop one. There are plenty of reputable carts out there which are relately easy to integrate.

How about going to a third party card processor first and seeing which carts they recommend, then see if it fits in with the technology you have at your disposal. I use these guys (no affiliation)
There are tutorials out there to design and build your own cart but if your client is going to sort out all the card processing details then I suggest you ask them if they can budget for the cart itself. Some of the carts are free too.

All you have to do then is worry about understanding the cart and integrating it with the card processing company.

Hope this helps

thanks for your quick response. I was going to go for that approach, but i really want to learn this shopping cart business, as i think its essential for web developers to know this kind of stuff now. Have you build your own shopping cart?, if so could you please show me how you learnt it, using tutorials or books etc etc.

Any help, would be much appreicted

thanks

That's the spirit!

I've just recently finished a shopping cart for my own web site using ASP/Access. I didn't need to use any tutorials, but there are plenty of examples on the web. Here are a few resources...

These should be enough to get you started.

Hi there again,

Could you possibly send me your shopping cart code, so i could have a look at it, if thats possible. I can give you my email address if you prefer.

thanks

None of my code is commented <slap>wrist</slap> , and I can't afford the time to support it. You'd be much better off downloading some simpler more generic code from a tutorial and expanding on it.

My cart is bespoke for my website and it's also Trademarked, so you understand, I don't really want to divulge the code, Sorry.
