One 80-page document, 2 reviewers, about 2 hours to go before review meeting - Can it be done? How?

Is this close to whaty you want??

Merge comments and changes from several reviewers into one document
Open the document into which you want to merge changes.
On the Tools menu, click Compare and Merge Documents.
Click one of the documents that has changes to be merged.
Click the arrow next to Merge, and then click Merge into current document.
Repeat steps 2-4 until all copies of the document are merged.
Notes

For best results when merging changes from multiple reviewers, click Options on the Tools menu, and then make sure the Store random number to improve merge accuracy check box is selected.
Microsoft Word can store only one set of formatting changes at a time. Therefore, when you merge multiple documents, you may be prompted to decide whether you want to keep the formatting from the original document or use the formatting from the edited document. If you don't need to track formatting changes, you can clear the Find formatting check box in the Compare and Merge Documents dialog box.

About tracked changes and comments

Hello NoCalAdmin,

What I really want to do is have 2 or more copies of the same document open, with all reviewers inserting commment simultaneously, rather like you can in Excel with shared workbooks.

I tried your method, and it didn't work properly because:

a. I have no option to "Compare and Merge Documents". I can Compare under "Track Changes", or Merge under "Tools".

b. There is no option to "Merge into current document".

c. When I do a Merge, nothing changes in the Main document.

d. When I Compare, the comments seem to have come across, in that the numbers change, but the wording from the second document's comments is lost from the comment viewing pane.

I'm using Word 2000, under Windows 2000 Pro.
