Sharing Fax Line with Line 3 in CICS 7.1 2

I have a CICS 7.1 with four lines. My line three is looped to my fax machine and into the Cics. When the fax is using that line (line 3 in system) the Cics does not recognize the line is busy. I've tried turning supervision on... and a few other things. Nothing seems to work. Should I add a dedicated line for faxing or is there something I can do?? Help?? Thanks!

Unless u use an ATA for the FAX and make it an extension off of the CICS, it won't recognize that the line is in use. Personally I'd suggest getting a dedicated fax line and keep it separate from the phone system.

or you can get a line sharing device that will route calls to the fax if it is a fax and voice calls to the system.
if the fax is in use the system will get a busy signal, if the system is using the line the fax will get the busy signal

if you don't use the fax to often , or just want the ability to use the fax line to call out
i would hook up the fax to the internal ata of the cics and program the line to ring it only then you will get indication if fax in use

(also set the hotline feature of the iata to grab the fax line)

Port 117 is an ATA,connect it to that.
