In Win 9X there was a box to check that said "All Users have the same profile."

In Win 2000 Pro I cannot find this. I can copy the profiles, but I cannot tell the software to make the Administrator desktop automatically look the same as the user desktop.

Is there a way?

You might want to look into mandatory profiles. They might help you.

Got it...
Still, it would be nice if they just put the button back.

I agree, multiple profiles can be more trouble than they're worth.

What I have done in the past is to get my Administrator profile exactly the way I want. I then create another user account with Administrator rights and log in as that user. Copy the Administrator profile and paste it back under profiles. It will be called Copy of Administrator. Delete the "Default User" profile and rename "Copy of Administrator" to "Default User". From now on new profiles will be the same as the one you set up for the Administrator.

What happens if you install more programs after all that?

Abelson,

Earlier in this thread you indicated that you "Got it..."

I am also feeling the frustration over using profiles in Windows 2000... Can you explain how you "Got it..."

By Got it...
I meant I looked into Mandatory Profiles, from the previous message.

What I have been doing now is just changing the Administrator name to the end user name. Its a half solution.

I have a problem very similar to what you are experiencing and unfortunately I am not able to troubleshoot it. It has been driving me crazy since I set my new system up. I have an Admin user and then two Power users, but when logged in as either Power users I cannot use certain apps(the ones I have found so far that are not accessible are Adaptec CD Burn, Galaxy Plugin for Photoshop 6.0, and AVX Live!(virus update app) However, it isn't that simple, if you even try to access these apps, Win2K freezes completely and I have to do a hard boot. So far I have removed AVX Live! from startup so it doesn't automatically load and kill the system before I even get started, but I absolutely want to be able to use all apps when logged in as a Power User, or as a User for that matter. I don't really need Power user profiles, really only need user profile for running apps and admin for setup and such, but as it is I have to do most under Admin b/c of the access problem.

Microsoft won't help b/c it is OEM and my tech support will not b/c apparently they don't deal with "security" issues. I did however find out from manufacturer's tech support that my Gigabyte board has a bit of a conflict with Win2K and that causes the freezes not related to running access denied programs. So I am really out of resources on this problem, I have scoured the help menus and am now trying all the forums - runing in admin profile really bogs down my system resources when trying to run some apps

I am hoping that someone can tell me where I can add/remove apps to the certified apps that user profiles have access to.

Any ideas??

bweissenfels and I must be beating our heads on the same tree...

I have found two issues:

First,
While Win2000 is great for multiple users, it "Sucks" for multi-network, single users, such as those users that use mobile computing... I have found no way to disable profiles... I have found not way to mantain a profile without all the hassles of rebooting, switching users, installing applications, copying profiles, rebooting again, and switching uses again...

Second,
Microsoft does not take responsibility for its own application... If you have OEM in your Products ID then you must get your software support from your hardware provider... Maybe the Judge can force MS to support their own products... We can only hope...
