Here's my situation...

when we first started using citrix metaframe xp, I had a windows xp machine with a printer installed locally. there was a windows 2000 machine sharing that printer, but it wouldn't print through citrix. so I installed the printer locally on the win2k box and the xp machine could print just fine through that machine. problem solved.

now...the win2k machine crashed and has been replaced by a windows xp pro machine. needless to say, the printer is now installed locally on a winxp machine(either machine)...so the other machine can't share through THAT one now.

anybody know what I'm talking about? heard of this before? I'm lost.

You need to look closely at how you are sharing this machine and what users you have given permissions to. Don't count on the everyone user working. Grant permission to specific users and see if they can then access the printer.

We use shared local printers on XP Pro machines here extensively with no problems.

both machines can print locally just fine. it's a matter of printing through CITRIX ONLY that's giving us the problem. we just can't use the printer through a 2nd citrix client when it's installed on either xp machine (regardless of what the 2nd client's OS)

I'm going to specify the permissions anyway in a little while (when I can get in that office), like you advised, but I think that you may not have considered that we CAN print locally from both machines.

I'll post details of the permissions change shortly.

Check your event log on the Citrix server to make sure the printed has not failed to auto-create.

windows xp doesn't display ntfs security options if you aren't using a domain. unfortunately, we're using a workgroup and I don't know of any ways to restrict/specify share permissions without the domain. xp basically lets you "share" or "not share" a folder.
