Shared mailboxes

We are in the process of moving from Ex2K on W2K box to Ex2k3 on W2k3 (both servers on on the same domain). Most of the move has gone ok but we are having problems with shared mailboxes.

Where those shared mailboxes are used to send email, the user used to be able to send under the shared mailbox anme and the "sent item" appeared in the shared mailbox sent items folder. Now (but not consistantly all), some users emails are "sent on behalf of" and the item appears in the users sent items not the shared mailboxes.

Under 2k, we only gave the user permissions to access the mailbox but, in some cases, adding "grant on behalf of" to the AD permissions page fixes it, but on others it doesn't.

I am presuming that this is a permissions problem but I can't work out where to amend the permissions so everything works.

Help!?!
 
Are you setting the Send As right under the AD account security tab for the shared mailbox?

Or are you setting the Send on Behalf of right from Exchange General / Delivery Options?

You need to do the former I think.

Under the old 2k box we only setup Send As in AD. Under 2k3 we have added both as the original right didn't appear to be enough. The problem is that the results are not consistant. Some people still do not work.

Given the size of that Microsoft article, it's going to take me a while to read through and work out.


As an added extra, we have discovered that if you click reply or forward, you need to confirm "Send As". If you don't it sends it on behalf of, if you reselect the Send as, it does actually send it under the share name.
