Hello and thanks in advance. Here's my situation, our company has a small network, 1-WinNT 4.0 Server and
1-WorkStation, 5-Win98 2nd, 1-Me, 1-Win2k Pro. I recently installed on my workstation, Win2k Pro. My problem is that I want to share some files and I add domain users to the folder, but when I go to the workstation that I added permissions I can see the Folder but when I try to access it, it say "ACCESS DENIED". One interesting thing and wierd is that 3 of the 5 Win98 workstations see my folder but the 2 others don't. The WinNT Workstation and the ME workstation don't see my shared folder. The only computer that works and can access my shared folder is the server. I tried adding in the Shared Permissions Tab, adding "EVERYONE", individual domain "USERS, "DOMAIN USERS", but nothing seems to work, I still get the ACCESS DENIED error. I know its probably something easy but I cannot see it.

Is the folder you are trying to share on an NTFS drive? Chris

Hello Chris, I may have found some solutions, and will try them today. If i need more info I will refer back here and of coarse ask more questions. By the way yes it is NTFS drive and I didnt realize I hade to set the Security Permissons as well and shared permissons. I used to be the WinNT4.0 BDC and didnt have to change it there, so I installed Win2k Pro and now realized it had to be set there NTFS persmissons. Thanks in advance. B-)

Hello all and thanks in advance. I was able to solve one issue, but I still have a couple issues left and they are as follows.

On the WinNt 4.0 Workstation, for some reason none of the other workstations and even the server cannot ping its computer name, I can ping its IP Address from all the computers, including the Server, but when I ping the computer name from the workstations I get the following message "Unknown Host (computername) and the server displays a different message "Bad IP address (computername)".

So thats one of my issues and the other is my workstation win2k pro can see the winnt 4.0 workstation in the Network Neighborhood, but when I try to access it I get the following error "Network Path Not Found". One thing very interesting is that I can access the NT Workstations shared folders from all of the other Workstations, including the server, but not mine.

Here is my Network info if needed.
1-WinNt Server 4.0 sp6a
1-WinNt Workstation 4.0 sp6a
1-Me Workstation
1-Win2K Workstation Sp2
5-Win98 2nd Ed. Workstations

If more info is needed ASK !!

iamondtron,

Hey did you find the solution to your problem. I have a very similar setup and one machine is having problems accessing, giving the same error message.

Kyle

If you are not using Wins or DNS try to use the lmhosts file located \wiint\system32\drivers\etc. Format it as:

xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx computerA
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx computerB
and so on...

after saving the file from command line type

nbtstat -R
