I've a network mainly accessed by Win 2k remotes. One machine happens to be Win 98 SE. The 98 machine primarily handles the merging and updating of several dbfs along with a few Win 2k.

My question is, would/could the Win 2k machines prevent (happens enough to cause problems) the 98 machine from doing its deed? I've searched the forum and have read about an issue concerning "Opportunistic Locking" which may be the cause.

Will this feature have to be disabled/enabled on all Win 2k machines that access the network?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

FBM

BTW, Netware 5.1 with host pc's using Win 2k & PC Anywhere and ALL remotes using Win 2k

The SMB signing, opportunistic locking and other pitfalls are discussed in the MS KB article. Be certain to follow all the links included:
I suspect the issue is that the Win98 machine is running under a FAT32 filestore, and there are serious limitations on what it can handle as a single file relative to an NTFS filestore such as used by your Win2k clients.
