Hi All,

Whenever I restart my PC, I get the message "SGTRAY.EXE not responding". Anyone know what that is??

Thanks!

sgtray.exe is a part of Veritas Storage Guard which installs with "Drive Letter Access", "Record Now", "Backup Exec Desktop" and "Backup Exec Desktop Pro", along with a few other programs from Veritas.

The sgtray.exe will run at start up of windows (tested on XP/2000) it is called Storage Guard and will alert you when you have not completed a backup of your data for a long time.

With RecordNow DX it is installed as a simple Update Manager.

Removal instructions:

Howdy:

Had Veritas Backup on your system at one time eh??

As per a search...

System Tray icon and background monitoring task for Veritas Storage Guard which in most cases gets installed as part of Backup Exec Desktop or Backup Exec Desktop Pro (as well as some of the other Veritas backup products). When running in the background, Storage Guard alerts you when you have not done a backup of your data for a while. Also, if you decide to do a backup you can do it straight from the System Tray icon.

Recommendation :
Since the regular backup of your data is something we recommend very highly, we feel it is a matter of personal preference as to whether you want to have Storage Guard in the background constantly checking on you, or whether you prefer to rely on your own manual procedures. In any case, if you have set up regular overnight scheduled backups you definitely do not need Storage Guard in the background, in which case you can disable it with Startup Manager.

Hey SESaskDFC,

I'm the tech at XtremeComputer.Com that wrote about the RecordNow issue on XP.

Just wanted to ask if I could take what you wrote and add it as additional comments to our post at xtremeComputer.Com.
(I hope there isn't a problem posting our sites name, didn't read the policy of this site yet.)

I've been looking for a way to sign one of my posts with my name that just happens to be the same as yours. [thumbsup] (one way to cheat the system I guess)

Not that it matters much but we all go by the same name when posting so no real credit goes to any one tech here.

If what you found was from a search could you forward the address. I'll update our post to give readers more information.

Regards and good posting. (unlike my post that has no technical contect.)
