We currently have 500 users, running an in-house vfp6 package for gathering information, running on laptops. If the laptop hibernates, or crashes, or lid is shut, or sometimes after printing we get either a fatal error, or memo invalid or missing errors. The only way to fix is to reindex all the tables, and run a cleanup program to check for corruption. It's driving me crazy and our users are loosing confidence in our otherwise good systems. Any help or suggestions appreciated. Thanks.

This is a procedural, OS / hardware problem - get them to shut down the application properly BEFORE the laptop does it's thing. The only alternative would be to add a timeout to the application that's shorter than the shortest one any laptop might have. (There is another thread on this topic just a couple days old - do a search for it.)
