Setup for Third PRI

My "elder" Nortel vender has been doing Norstars for a long time, but he shakes his head at how "complex" my company's system is, including the way I've got dual PRI, MCK Extenders, and VMI for the fax server. So I ask that the knowledgable folks on the board make sure that he's got the right info as we make the system "even more complex".

According to my MCK vender, I need to get a third PRI card to plug in an MCK Gateway II so that it can do "local" dialing.

Right now in the MICS 0x32 I've got two PRI cards and two combo cards, a half dozen 0x16s, and a single DS card in a 12x0. Software is 6.1 XS.

My Norstar vender says to add a third PRI, I need to get a second 12x0 and a PRI card. He says the third PRI card will get its timing off the second combo card. And he says the software version supports this configuration.

I've browsed through Norstar vendor websites and I don't see the 12x0 described as anything but a DS card holder.

Is my "elder" vendor right? I'm the one in hot water if he's wrong. ;-)

Your MICS 6.1 will, according to Nortel support a maximum of 3 PRI's. The 3rd DTI (or PRI/T1) card has to go into a trunk module, in slot 1 only, as the KSU will only hold two cards.

Provided that your vendor's tech installs the DTI card in slot 1 of the 12x0, you should be okay. Remember though, that this would mean that the existing DS card in the 12x0 would have to moved to slot 2, requiring reprogramming of the analog lines on that DS card.

Your vendor should have the appropriate documents on MICS 6.1 to refer to for correct setup and requirements.

So you're saying that I don't need to get that second 12x0. Thanks.

I'll ask my vendor to double check the docs. I'm sure I caught him off guard today.

(I know that this is not a case of him trying to sell me a something I don't need--I gained a lot of respect for him on our first meeting as he worked with me in determining what parts of our Norstar were ruined by a leaking pipe--the company he was subcontracted to wanted us to replace the whole system...)

Skippy, you forgot to mention that the Trunk Mod that the DTI would be installed in HAS TO BE connected to expansion port 8 and there CANNOT be any other cards in that Trunk Module. So PTerrell, you will need another Trunk Mod if you plan on keeping your DS Card.

Okay, so my vendor was correct as that's exactly what he told me!

Thanks for helping me here. I hope that my answer to the Brooktrout card pays you back. (BTW: Norstargirl is not the same as the "elder" vender I mention above. I purchased one of our Norstars through her distant company and the local vendor installed it.
