hi all!

i am still new to DNS and windows 2003 and this stuff, so please bear with me.. thaks...

i have a windows 2003 server, it is a dedicated server that i am using to host my companies 5 websites. it has only 1 IP address assigned to it. i pointed my domain names to the servers IP address from the DNS settings wit my registrar and in the IIS in windows, i created the websites and controlled them using the "Host Headers" (as i was told before by someone on the forum) and the websites are working perfectly fine.

now i want to add POP3 emails to the domains. for example if i have mycomp.com i want me@mycomp.com and so on. how can i setup this? can i do it with IIS only or do i need exchange?

and if anyone knows where i can read about all this stuff i would be really thankful...

any help is appreciated...

thehms,

You don't necessarily have to host your POP3 mail server on the same machine as your IIS server. Your MX record(s) in DNS will specify the IP address(es) that handle(s) mail for your domain.

You can use Exchange or another (such as Linux-based) mail server to handle POP3, but you can't do it with just IIS.

Type POP3 service in the search Help & Support Center from the Manage Your Server screen. It will walk you through the process of setting up mail accounts on your domains. If you want internal e-mail traffic you will need a mail server of some flavour.

hi all...
thank you for your quick replies, and sorry for my late reply but i was off from work yesterday...

so i understand that i need exchange server to make internet email accounts.. i will use my dedicated server as the email server as well.... so like this i will need to point the MX records of the domains to my servers IP address...

do i need anyting else other than Microsft Exchange Server in order to make my email accounts?

Exchange will do it all, but, since you have to ask, I can only suggest you do some serious study before you begin!
Exchange Server is not a simple litlle application...
