Hi,

I am looking for some help. I need someone to help me setup active directory on my server here in my office. I have tired it before, but I mess things up. I have made a ghost of the OS drive in case we mess up again. Everything here in my office is setup as a workgroup and I would like to migrate to Active Directory. Anyone willing to help, please let me know. My AIM is snowboarder401. Thanks a a bunch!

Hi site4sure,

If you have a workgroup, there is nothing to migrate.
Only design and install.

If you have an old NT-Domain you will have to migrate.

You need to leave mutch more information to get a good answer to this question (I think, too mutch for this forum).

Hi,

Well here is the deal:

All my machines are on Win2k. I am worried about when I migrate is like my Outlook Mail and Favorites, Desktop Settings etc, I want all that to be on the server. I esentially want to make sure everyones complete profile is downloaded everytime they log on to the server. What plans or specs do you need to help me?

Hi,

If you only have a workgroup, this should not be a problem.

Install AD on one standalone server. This will not effect the clients.
Make all the settings and create a the users and alocate a home drive for them.
Test the server and get familar with the settings.

On the client:
Login as administrator.
Save the user profile to a safe location.
Join the domain.
Login with the user (to create a new profile).
Login with as administrator to import the old profile to the new one. Don´t forget to replace the permissions.

Test this in a demo envirement first. It is easy to make misstakes.
And offcource, this only apply if you have a workgroup and NOT a NT-domain.

Hey,

I need some help setting up the AD server. I don't understand some of things that it wants when setting up. I have setup a NT-Domain before, but that was a whole lot different then AD. Any help?
