"Seting up NT4 & IIS"
Can anyone direct me to information on how to setup an NT4 server with IIS4 loaded? I have applied all the patches and security updates, But I am having trouble figuring how to procede from there.
I have an Ameritech DSL line (1.5M) and am using an Ameritech provided Efficient networks 5861 router and have a Linksys BEFSR41 as DHCP/Router/firewall. I have full access to both routers.
If I let my Linksys act as a DHCP I can connect using IE6 to the Internet with the IE settings set to automatically detect settings. If I take my static IP address and plug it into the server, have 255.255.255.0 as the subnet mask and the gateway set at the Linksys IP of 192.168.1.1 then it won't connect using IE. Running ipconfig on any of my other network machines shows me that they have any assigned IP in the DHCP range (like 192.168.1.127), subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 and the gateway as 192.168.1.1
The Linksys talks to the 5861 router on 192.168.254.254. Everything works but the NT4/IIS4 server.
I am currently on a static IP on the 5861 but I also have a static IP (5 actually) available to use for the web server. This DSL connection is also used for Internet connectivity for about 50 users.
This NT4 server will only be used as a web server but will have to be able to talk to my Novell 3.12 server for data. Security is an issue. I do not have money to put into more current software or hardware.
Also once I have a static IP address running on this server do I also have to register a domain name for it? Or can I just use the IP address (preferred)?
I have worked with servers and networks for over 10 years but never done this before. I appreciate whatever help or direction you could provide.
Thanks
