Ok, I have set up the client on my workstation outside of office. I can connect and get to resources by mapping with IP addresses, but not by names. Do I need to add my WINS server to my network properties of my home workstation to resolver IP addresses and Names? We would really like to browse by name instead of IP since these connections are goign to be used for home users who dont know too much about IP addresses, etc. Would we also need to add our DNS server(s) to the network configuration as well? Thanks for all help!!

I've used both WINs and DNS, and you just need to make sure that you have an entry on the WINS/DNS server for itself. After that all seems to work well. I do have a site in which the workstation does not log into a Domain. That site only works so well. I would recommend using a domain based network.

make sure you get the dns wins ip address on the client side by ipconfig/all. If not make sure that you have configured these in the firebox by going to policy manager>>network>>configuration>>win/dns.

you may wanty to also make entries for your hosts on your lmhosts file found in c:\windows\systems32\drivers\etc

this file is check first by windows when trying to resolve hostnames to ip addresses .

juist remember that you will need to rename the lmhosts.sam file to jsut lmhosts

example

192.168.1.1 server_name #PRE #DOM:yourdomain.com
