Setting up Intranet on 2003 Server Web Edition

I'm new to web servers and have a stupid question regarding setting up an intranet site. Do I need apache or similar in addition to W2k3? The site will not be accessible to remote computers, only to one or two within our organization. I'm trying to decide what software platform to use, and I'm considering either Linux or Windows 2003 Server Web Edition. But since I don't know much about W2k3, is it ALL I need to set up an internal website? I don't know Linux or Apache, though I'm willing to learn. I may not have enough time to learn both, which is why I am considering W2k3 Web Edition.

Windows 2003 includes a web server, so you will not need Apache.

The web server built into Windows 2003 is very straight forward to use, and out of the box is configured quite securely.

With Windows 2003 Webserver edition, will I be able to control who can and cannot access the server? Either by login or by computer name (or both)?

For w2k which is probably similar to 2k3:
In iis, under the website you create, view properties, edit Directory Security/Anonymous access then uncheck anonymous access. Create user accounts on the system that will have access to that web site. Furthermore you should make sure the server is behind your firewall along with the users using a private ip address(10.0.0.1).

If you are willing to learn linux, install linux/apache. It Is it not much more difficult to learn and doesnt cost anything. download RedHat and burn onto cdrom from: ftp://ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/linux/9/en/iso/i386/
