Hi all,

Need some help.
I have found a copy of DSA 1.5.6, old it maybe, but I would like to use somthing other than the tracker system, and we are not ready to stump £800+ for ASA right away.
How do I go about setting it up?
I know there are a few options, but I would prefer to connect either through the network, or preferably via modem.
We currerntl connect to our system remotely via Procomm so I assume I dial in on the same number, how ever I cannot get DSA to use my modem.
HELP!

Thanks in Advance

John

A couple of question
1.what revsion of switch do you have? 9.5 or higher?
2 Do you have a C-lan card
2.1 If so what does the C-lan connect to CMS,Voice mail or other
3.If no You should be able to dial in using the same number as your procomm. Are you sure you are using the right comm port for from your computer? If the number is a pots line, don't forget your dialing out of the switch to a outside line. Wisdom is Knowledge

Thanks All Phoneman2

Through your network is goign to require the C-Lan Card and assigning a static IP. Through modem your going to need you INADS. After that you more than likeley set it up using port 5111, 5151 or somethign along these line that's open and not used. The defaults for the communciations are (at least this is the way I have setup multiple configs for various PBX's:

Baud: 115200
Data Bits: 8
Parity: None
Stop bits: 1
Flow COntrol: None

Phoneman2,

1) I believe it is a G3si V8
2) yes we do have a Clan card, and I assume it would be connect to either the CMS server or Audix.

Hope this helps.

Milletary,

I'll give that a try tomorrow, as I dont have my laptop with me at present.
Thanks for a quick reply guys.

Thanks in Advance

John

I'm not sure that ASA can be connected to a C-LAN below v.9...so I'd wait on someone else before taking that statement to the bank...but...

if you still want to get your switch administration through a network connection, you'll need this
I'm using them now and they're great.

Good luck,
Steve

P.S. Did you check the settings on your modem and make the proper adjustments in DSA when prompted to create a connection? You'll use the same number that you used for Procomm.

The previous replay is correct. I am running V8 software and can not use our ASA throught he clan card. I do have access to the inads port and use a modem for it. This does work well.

Hi all,

I have now got DSA dialling on the same number as I do with Procomm, but am still propted with a Tracker style log on.
Is this correct?

John

The tracker is a secure, multi port modem which sits on top of the switch, audix, cms, and MAP-D (if you have one) and allows you to access all these systems through one dial up. The down side is that you cant set DSA/ASA to log in automatically. You wont be able to do the SAT across LAN because you need at least r9.5. As well as that you would have needed a second C-LAN card to talk to the open network, as the primary one for CMS will be setup on a private network segment, so it wouldnt be able to be connected to via your general LAN.
We got a workaround by putting a w2k desktop next to the SAT and taking the cable from the tarcker and popping it into the com 1 serial port on the PC. Then install winVNC or PC Anywhere and setup DSA. It then means that you can use PC anywhere to do work on the switch from any PC on the network, or by dialing in via RAS access if you have it. If you need any more details let me know. John

John,

Thanks for all your help m8! I have sorted now, it was a case of USER ERROR.
Is is not possible to do such work as creating Vectors, does anyone have any documentation on DSA?

Thanks in Advance

John

"You wont be able to do the SAT across LAN because you need at least r9.5."

Wrong. I'm using the LANSAT devices on 3 V6 switches.

You can create vectors using GEDI or Emulation in DSA/ASA. Emulation is better for editing existing vectors due to the fact that you can insert or delete lines whereas these features are not available in GEDI.

Drop me a line at sforcum@gerberscientific.com if you need help with the vector stuff.

I user the ASA GEDI all the time to inset and delete vector lines; just select the EDIT (F6) option. Don't know about DSA, went straight to ASA from a SAT.

What version of ASA? I've tried with both DSA & ASA V1.10.11 Path 001 and have been unable to complete this in Gedi.

I also have ASA release R1.10.11 patch 001. Do you have the Edit/F6 option? Susan

The option is there, but when I try to use it, I get "PC Terminal type not supported".

What default emulator are you using? I have 513.

When using DSA/ASA, emulation 4410 is the best to use. SJforcum, I prefer to keep my system as simple as possible and strictly speaking the avaya definity ECS pre 9.5 does not support the SAT across LAN function. Now I know that the Lan sat is a costly box which you can bolt on to get round this but I think that using any old desktop which you have lying around will better fit most peoples needs, Also, the more boxes you add the more there are to fall over when you least need it! Welshman213,

An alternate method is to use a data module connected to your PC, assuming that you are in the same building as the switch. The data module (7400 or 8400) connects to the netcon channels in the G3. It will run at a higher speed than dial-up and bypass the tracker device.

Kevin

PS: 7400 data module requires a port on a TN754, an 8400 data mudule requires a port on a TN2181 or a TN2224.
