I am running W2k3 server and want to enable VPN for a remote site.

We have a dreytek router, with some firewall capabilities. The server is running Active Directory and is acting as dhcp server.

How do I find out if my router can provide publishing and translation service for the VPN server?

We do not currently get a fixed ip address from our dsl provider, it is still possbile to access the vpn server (if ip address is known)?

If using MSCHAP, login authentication will be done by AD, do vpn users accounts have to be created separate from normal users?

I have been looking on Microsoft's site, which makes the whole thing seem way to complicated, but i just wanted to know the answer to the above, so i can give it a go...

Thanks in advance

Andrew

Answers:

1. Check the router manual.

2. Yes, but better to use dyndns.org or similar Dynamic address translator.

3. No, in the user accounts you can permit remote access.
