Setting up a Tie Line

i have an Avaya ip office 3.0 system that i want to set up back to back with an NEC phone system via a tie line. i cant find any good instructions on how to do this in the documentation. any tips?

Firstly, get it off 3.0(xx)....it was crap! Seriously. :) Put it up to 3.1 or 3.2

Secondly, I'm assuming you want to use QSIG or something for the tie line? QSIG on the IPO is done via a PRI card only, not BRI. The NEC, depending on model and version, will probably do it on both. What NEC system is it?

IPO QSIG is pretty simple. Set the Line to QSIG, put the trunks in a different Outgoing Group ID, create System Short Codes so when you dial the xtns on the NEC eg 3xx that it uses the new Outgoing Group ID. And vice versa in the NEC.

If you want to use analog trunks then it's basically the same but connect analog trunks (IPO) to analog xtns (NEC) and vice versa. Put the trunks in a group and program Short Codes too the same. When you select a trunk you will get dial tone from the other system and dial the xtn you want so it appears that the other system is actually dialling. You won't get name/xtn display like you will with QSIG.

Also note that IP Office does not support traditional analog E&M Tie lines; only T1-based. The analog solution that Disturbedone described is not really "tie line" but rather OPX lines going both directions- this will work like a champ, but no extra call info will be passed between systems.

You're correct, the IPO doesn't support E&M. But as forums bring together people of extremely varying experience & knowledge from all over the world, terminology is very different. The technical definition of tie-line doesn't include the analog option I described, but as it wasn't specified how the solution wanted to be achieved I gave some possible options including a relatively expensive one (QSIG) and a relatively cheap one (analog), specifying the differences.

I could've assumed that moonraker is from the US where QSIG is barely known of and even more rarely used but is available. As T-1 is mainly only used in the US and Japan, the large majority of the world don't use it. It all depends on what the requirements of the customer are as to which "tie-line" option would be best.

It all depends on knowledge and terminology which is hard to judge in a forum unless it is specified exactly.
 
ok thanks, that helps alot, i believe i was mistaken when i said i had version 3.0, have to check but i think its 3.2. im going to be working on that soon and if i have any problems i will post them here. seems to be much clearer now though. thanks.
 
what line do i set to QSIG? the PRI line or do i create a new one? i have an avaya pbx at branch A that i want to connect via a tie line to an NEC system at branch B. Branch A is connected via MPLS to branch C,D, and E(avaya systems). so i am testing through branch C to try and communicate with branch B(the NEC system).

at first i created a new line and set it to QSIG but i got an error saying that the carrier access code was incorrect, i then set the PRI line to QSIG and got the same problem.
