I am trying to link three computers.

We are all logging in locally.

I have them all connected to a Linksys network hub.
Mine is the "server" and has a shared folder \shareme
I configured the local network connection on my computer with an TCP/IP address 10.199.1.100; subnet 255.255.255.0

On one of the other computers I set the IP address to 10.199.1.110 and the subnet 255.255.255.0 and then gateway to my IP 10.199.1.100.

I can Ping to and from each computer successfully. When I try and map from the other computer to mine \\192.199.1.100\shareme I get an error "the folder you entered does not appear to be valid. Please chose another"

What did I miss,

thanks

Right, "Simple File Sharing" should be on until you get this figured out (then you can disable it if you want more advanced options).

Don't forget to make sure both PC's belong to the same workgroup name. Also, I'm not sure the gateway setting is necessary unless you plan on sharing an internet connection from the "server" to the "client". Even if that is your intention, save that for last.

Thanks all; the workgroup was the problem.
