For some reason my temp files are showing up on my desktop (Word).

I would I go about designating another location for the files?

Thanks in advanced.

Could you give more specifics? Are you saying there are a buncg of shortcuts on your desktop that are .TMP files? What is the reference to Word?

more infro:

When I am using Word the temp files made for the file that I have open are stored on my desktop. This does not happen with other programs.

Go into Word, Tools, Options. Check location paths for various items are not set to the desktop or C:\documents and Settings\profile name etc,

Are you saving your documents to the Desktop? If you are, don't. It is very bad practise as the Desktop is probably the most vulnerable place in Windows.

Make sure that none of the paths under Tools, Options, FIle Locations are pointing at your desktop.
