I have set my management interface IP to an open static IP address on my internal network so that I can configure the device. I want to set the IP of e0/1 to an other IP on that same subnet = to the IP of my existing firewall and have the interface shut until I am ready to cut over. When I set the IP it gives me an error because the device is on the same vlan am I able to do what I'm trying to do?

Your management interface is suppose to be on a different network than your internal network. It is meant for out of band network management.
