Does anybody know how I can set my user account as the default user in windows 98se so that when I click cancel/ escape it takes me to that account.

I would also like it if the changes made under the default account were reflected in my account, but it doesn't have to be

thank you in advance

By not having multiple user accounts? This is 98 - the multiple users functionality isn't very sophisticated.

You could set your user up to not have individual settings for all those bits it prompts for - then you'd share them with the default profile (and presumably any changes you make while logged on as you would be reflected in the 'default' user - which is really no user).

btw - why do you want this functionality/have you thought of upgrading to 2k or XP?

Back in the day I had more accounts but since then I have downgraded to one. The username is rather long and I wanted to just be able to press escape and get all my start menus, files, icons, folders, favorites, and cookies.

You can restore single user use - been awhile in 98 - think its the set password control panel icon. I'd save your current user profile (in \windows\profiles) first, in case you need to restore the default (which just uses folders under \windows and the user.dat file there) user's values from your own. Remove all .pwl files from \windows as well. If you've no network to log onto, I think you may even loose the logon prompt altogether (but as I say, its been awhile since I played with these settings in 98).
