I need to create Word files with a width of exactly (client requirements) 8.22 inches but Word keeps setting it back to 8.27 inches.
Am using MS Word 97.
I also need 8.25 inch wide files; same problem.
My default printer is HP LaserJet 4 if it helps.

Is that a text width or paper size? Anne Troy

You need to create a new paper size. In NT this would be done as a printer server setting.

Bring up the printers control panel.

Right click on a blank area of the panel.

Select Server Properties at the bottom of the pop up menu.

Creat a new form with the paper size you need.

Back in Word, select the new paper size.

Not sure how your printer will handle the new paper size.

Not sure how you do this in other versions of Windows.

chifu,

thanks but am not using NT.
unfortunately still using WIN 95.

Sorry--I cut out for a bit there, Justin. I don't understand, tho. I change the paper size and no problem. What do you expect it to do?

I open a file, hit File-Page setup, hit the Paper Size tab. I type in the width box: 8.22 (DON'T USE THE ARROWS, TYPE IT RIGHT INTO THE BOX).

I save the file, I close it, I open it, it stays at 8.22 width... Anne Troy

hmm... when i create a new blank document and set it's page width to 8.22 inches or to 8.25 inches its ok.

but when I try to do the same on a new document based on a template I have it keeps reverting to 8.27.

basically what i need is the same layout (headers, footers, tables, etc.) but with 6 or 7 different page widths.

I did not want to have to create 6 or 7 templates as the macros I need (and the custom command bars) are in the same template file (for easy maintainability). several users will be using this template.

I guess i have no choice but to create separate templates.
Maintainability will be an issue if they add more page sizes.

what's weird is I have no problem setting the page width to 8.47, 7.75, or 8.5 inches.
only when I try to set it to 8.22 or 8.25 (the original template is 8.5 x 11).
I can also set the page height to any value I like.

Code:
WR 8.25 11.25
GB 8.47 11.04
GL 8.22 11.21
RS 7.75 10.25
TC 8.5 11
GC 8.47 10.96
